The incomparable Jacques Tati creates a minor comic masterpiece out of a simple tale of a rural French postman's schemes to streamline his deliveries along American lines. Much of the humour lies in the finely-observed, lovingly photographed details of everyday life in provincial France. Tati's directorial debut was an award winner at the 1949 Venice Film Festival.
