War File, The - Daylight Bombing Raids Over Europe Movie
During World War II the US Air Force carried out a dangerous and strategic bombing campaign against Nazi Germany during the hours of daylight. The Eighth Air Force, and later the Ninth, operated from airfields in rural England. They used Flying Fortresses and Liberator Bombers, escorted by Thunderbolt and Mustang fighters. On each raid the bombers themselves suffered damage, falling from the sky in flames or exploding in mid-air. Includes a look at the Pacific theatre of war and Hiroshima.
