Christmas in small town New Bedford is not how it should be. Grace and her mother are stranded in war torn Europe when they try to recover belongings from her husband who is missing in action. At their home, sister-in-law Toppy is directing the town pageant and is in a state because the script is a flop. Nephew Hub, who is planning on becoming a priest, returns from school holidays and brings a surprise with him - a girlfriend who is a Jewish refugee.
