In a typical gritty nothern town there are usually only two options in life, to work down the pit or in a factory. But Jimmy Muir (Sean Bean) is determined his life is going to be different, he is going to become a professional footballer. Encouraged by his girlfriend Annie, he plays for the local amateur team. He finally gets his chance when spotted by the local talent scout, but with problems at home and a lifetime of bad habits has Jimmy the willpower to succeed?
