Set in Edinburgh, Rebus's investigations lead him through the city's ancient beauty and into its more sinister quarters as he searches for clues to brutal murders in the quest to uncover the truth. Features two episodes. The Falls - The murder of an eminent doctor and the discovery of a small coffin with an effigy of a baby within leads Rebus into the wealthy and powerful circles of Edinburgh society where his enquiries are coolly received. Fleshmarket Close - When a Kosovan man is murdered in a notorious Edinburgh sink estate, the motive appears to be race-related, but Rebus is not convinced. His investigations lead him through the world of asylum seekers and cruel gangland bosses and they realisation that the motivation is not racism but sibling rivalry and hidden passion.
