Josef von Baky's controversial film which was commissioned by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the German film studio, Ufa. Goebbels gave the director a five million Reichsmark budget to emulate and surpass the best Hollywood had to offer and became the largest entertainment project of the Third Reich. Set in eighteenth century Venice, Munchhausen tells the story of Baron von Munchhausen and his extravagant adventures.
